S47, Episode 12: Wine and Dine Me

Chapter 1:  Wow!  I can't believe their plan worked.  That was an incredible maneuver that resulted in one of the biggest blindsides in Survivor history.  This looked like an easy finish, with the alliance of five underdogs coasting to the finale, and now we have chaos.  And as we know, chaos makes for great Survivor television!  I'm giving a huge shout-out to the production team. Ocean's 11 is one of my favorite movies, and I loved that they turned the planning session into a Danny Ocean montage.

Chapter 2:  I am officially retiring (Not Austin) from Andy's name. He still annoys me, but he played that incredibly well and deserves credit for a huge turnaround in the game.

Chapter 3: On that note, this was an incredibly risky move for Andy (Not Austin, retired). Unless he thinks the underdogs will take him back, it is now a split tribe at 3-3. However, with Rachel's Block a Vote that needs to be played next week, it's really a 3-2 split, and he now has a target on his back. Throw in the two immunity idols that will get played, and there is a good chance that he will go home next week.

Takeaways

  • Another moment of confidence foreshadowed the vote when Caroline told Sue, "We've been running the game, and no one's realized it."
  • Am I the only one who noticed the irony of Sue wiping dirt from Caroline's face?
  • Genevieve's apology/groveling to Andy was painful to watch, but you must do what you must do to stay in the game.
  • When Genevieve told Teeny that she would vote for Rachel over her, it started an emotional avalanche in Teeny. At Tribal Council, she said she had moved past emotions and was operating strategically. Sorry, but I only saw emotions in this episode. At least she was laughing as she realized the blindside was coming.
  • We need an entire episode of Jeff describing food.
  • Sam has never had tiramisu.  Shocker.
  • On behalf of all the other all-American, quarterback-looking guys, it's not easy being us.
  • I love the Ghosts commercials, where the characters are watching the live episode! If you haven't watched Ghosts, I recommend it.
  • When I am on the show, my letter from home will be from my 26-year-old daughter, and it will be a drawing of her that simply says, "Win the Survivor thing."
  • The emotional aspect of Survivor fascinates me, so I really enjoyed hearing Genevieve talk about her regrets over not connecting with people.
  • I don't understand why Andy was insisting on giving more votes to Genevieve. I thought for sure he was going to ruin Operation: Italy by alienating Teeny.
  • With the exception of Sue, everyone can make a compelling argument about why they should win the game. Rachel is winning and surviving essentially on her own. Sam and Genevieve have made strong moves throughout the season. Andy (Not Austin, retired) has turned it around and orchestrated the biggest move of the season. Teeny has been on the wrong side of too many votes, but she has been flexible and made strong connections to survive. The finale should be fun!
